Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is a popular and well-respected AAC training system, by Lori A. Frost and Andrew S. Bondy.
Designed for use with children with autism and related developmental disabilities.
What makes PECS so unique is the initiation component. Children are taught to approach and give a picture (PCS work well) of a desired item to a communicative partner in exchange for that item.
PECS is so simple to use that within the first day of training, many children are able to calmly and clearly make a request.
